The OEC to EMT Bridge Course is designed for currently certified Outdoor Emergency Care providers who need the additional knowledge, clinical reasoning, skills, and EMS operational competencies required to transition to the EMT level.
Rather than repeating OEC education, the course focuses on the gap between OEC and EMT competencies, including anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, patient assessment, airway and respiratory management, medical and trauma emergencies, special populations, pharmacology, EMS operations, psychomotor skills, and clinical decision-making.
Required Materials
Students need Prehospital Emergency Care, 12th Edition with MyLab Access and LC Ready EMT Review Plus. The LC Ready resource has discount code REDROCKSCC20.
For lab days, students bring a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, pen light, safety glasses, pencil/notepad, and a watch capable of counting seconds. Clothing must be appropriate for EMS activities and weather; no shorts or open-toed shoes, and long hair must be tied back.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion, students should be able to integrate EMT-level foundational knowledge into patient care; perform comprehensive EMT-level assessment and clinical decision-making; safely perform EMT-level interventions and psychomotor skills; function effectively within the EMS system; and integrate prior OEC experience with EMT-level cognitive, psychomotor, and affective competencies.
